About the programme

Great themes of humanity are taken up in the "Mignon" songs by Wolf, the song cycle "Immortality" by Korngold and the "Poëmes pour Mi" by Messiaen. The latter are even autobiographical, a musical declaration of love to his wife (nicknamed "Mi"). Duets by Schumann and Brahms are set dialectically to this. Finally, the programme also takes an excursion into absolute music, with works by contemporary composers who use vowels and consonants, but outside of a linguistic-semantic context.
