Zum Programm
At the hour of Jesus’s death, Johann Sebastian Bach’s St Matthew Passion is performed in its original version, in the form in which it was presumably first performed 300 years ago on Good Friday in Leipzig, but which is rarely heard today. The timeless greatness of this monumental work does not lie solely in its musical structure. The gospel account, chorales and freely-written poetry combine to make a comprehensive account of the Passion narrative – symbolic, dramatic, moving.
