Two voices from the 20th century encounter a giant of the 19th century. A broad horizon of spiritual music unfolds spanning ascetic modernism and Romantic vision. Einojuhani Rautavaara’s “Eight Icons” and Galina Ustvolskaya’s “Préludes” search for existential truth in minimalist style, whilst Franz Liszt’s St Francis Legends encapsulate belief in luminous soundscapes. Lars Jönsson combines these worlds at the piano, and Gerd Mohr presents readings from Rautavaara.
